Shobthobns.—Mr E. Menlove, of Windsor Park, Cimaru, has resold to Mr P. C.Thielkeld the bull Prinoe Imperial, sire of the grand calves exhibited last year by Mr Menlovo. Princo Imperial was originally purchased by Mr Ihrelkold at Mr Q. M. Bell's sale iu Otago in 1874, and is by Prince Frederick, dam Jessamine 24th.

Athletic Club. —A committeo mooting of the Canterbury Amateur Athletic Club was held at tho Commercial Hotel on Thursday everinrj last. Thore were present—Messrs 0. C. Corfe (in the chair), Parker, Wilding, Lewin, Neville, Andorsoa, Forgusson, Anson, Eawkes, Campbell, and Tho ordor of the programme as drasrn up by tho sub-com-mitteo was approved of and accepted. A man named Brcsnaban, a small farmer, residing at Kerrytown, was returning home from work last Thursday evening on top of a dray load of straw, when the horses taking fright Bhied and bolted, throwing Brcsnahan with much violence to the ground. The wheel went over his leg, shattering both bones a Bhort distance below the knee. Dr. Huyes was Bent for, and pronounced the injuries to be of a serious character. Manaon informed tho stewards that he wqb tho rightful owner. Fibe AT Poet.—Soon after nine o'clock last night the loft in tho stables behind Hill's Albion Hotel, in Lyttelton, was diicovered to be on firo. The alarm was given, and the B igado soon appeared at the scene and subduod the conflagration. The building was constructed of galvanised iron, and was owned by Mr James Hill, of the Mitre Hotel A quantity of straw was consumed, and after the Fire Brigade had boen operating on the building a very short timo it was saved from all but comparitivoly slight damage to the roof and upper portion. Four horses, in the stable at tho time, were Rot out safely, and also tho harness. Ono of the mombcrs of tho Brigado, Mr J. J. Fenton, while engaged in cutting an aperture in tho end of the Btablo to admit tho n„zz!e of the fire-hoso, foil from the ladder upon which ho was standing and sus tainod a dislocation of oro of his ankles. A slight accident occurred also to a son of C.iptiin Wood's during the fire, The origin of tho firo is unknown.

ASHBtTBTON AGEICULTUBAI. AND PABTOBAL Association.—Yesterday afternoon, a committee meeting was held in tho upper room of the Town Hall, Ashburton, to arrange for the dates, &c, of the horso parade and annual show. Present —Messrs J. Carter (president), It. Miller, D. Oliver, O. P. Cox, E. 1. Coster, J. Hawdon, Geo. Jameson (hon. see), and Alfred Harris-n (hon. treasurer). The date of the horse parade was fixed for tho first Saturday fol owing tho Or ristchurch parade, and Messrs Joseph Hunt, M. Stitt, and F. Mayo wero appointed a committee to make arrangements. The Timaru Show being fired for 25th and 26th October, and tho Christchuroh Show for Bth and 9th November, it was agreed, on Mr Cox's motion, seconded by Mr Coster, that tho Ashburtjn annual show be held on Tuesday, Ist November. On Mr Hawdon's motion, secondod by Mr Coster, a sub-committee, comprising Messrs Cox, Jameson, John G-rixg, and Oliver, were selected to revise the catalogue. It was left to tho committee to draw up suggestions as to amounts of prizes, &:>., and a future special meeting will appoint judges, stewards, &e. On Mr Coster's motion, seconded by Mr Harrison, a Bub-committoe, comprising Messrs Carter, Cox, Oliver, and Stitt were elected to make recommendations on ";he subject of additions to tho yards, and to report at a special meeting on the 2nd September. New Volunteer Cojipant.—A meeting of tho promoters of a new company of guards was held at the Commeroial Hotel last night, when there was a good attendance. A number of names were added to those already Bent in as willing to join tho company, and a committee appointed to arrange for the getting of other members.
