Mails closo at the Chief Post Office for the following places (subject to the necessary alterations) ns nnder • THURSDAY, AUGUST 18. For Australian Colonies and United Kingdom via Brindisi (for specially addressed correspondence only), Continent of Europe, Point de Galle, India, China, Japan, the East, Aden, Mauritius, Cape of Good Hope, Natal, Ac., per express train to connect with a.s. Te Anau, as follows Ordinary letters, at 7 a.m. ; books and newspapers, at 6 a.m.; registered letters, at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, August 17th; money orders, at 4 p.m. an Wednesday, August 17th ; late fee letters may be posted in the travelling Post Office van attached to the express train on Thursday, August 18th. For Northern Ports of New Zealand, per Albion, at 1.45 p.m.; late fee letters, 2 p.m. ; guard’s van, 2.40 p.m. train. For Otago, per Taiaroa, at 1.45 p.m.; late letters, 2 p.m.; guard’s van, 2.40 p.m. train. FRIDAY, AUGUST 19. For Northern Porta of New Zealand and Australian colonies, via Sydney, per Wakatipu, at 3.20’p.m. ; late fee letters, 3.30 p.m. ; guard’s van, 4 p.m. train. MONDAY, AUGUST 22. For West Coast Sounds, per Express, to connect with s.s. Stella at the Bluff, at 7 a.m. Notice.—The next mail for the United Kingdom, via San Francisco, will close on Saturday, September 10th, and will be due in London on October 25th. SYDNEY J.
