RANGIORA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

This Council met on Friday evening, being the usual monthly meeting. Present—The Mayor (Mr Johnston), Ore. Good, Burt, Boyd, Stephens, Ivory, Gulliver, Crothere, and Ellis. Correspondence was received, read end considered from the Bangiora Horticultural and Floral Society, asking permission to use Council Chamber to hold their meetings in. From Mr G. Murdooh, of Methven, re survey and boundary pegs of the Bangiora borough reserve. From the Treasury, with voucher for 10s, paid to Council's credit, fines, fees, &c,, for month of May. From Mr J. E. March, re immigrants' cottages. From the Charitable Aid office, with ;heque for £3 6s, allowances for the month. From Mr Ensor, on behalf of Sir Michael Le Fleming, re idivisional fencing between Sir Michael's property and the Maria Andrews Park. F.-cm Mr Murdoch, requesting that notice might be served upon Mr Boyle to give up possession of the reserve at Methven at once, and also respecting the lease of same. From Oolleotor of Customs, with statement of moneys paid to Council's credit for licenses, transfers, &0., equalling £162. The surveyor's report was read and considered. After reporting upon the ditches and drains within the borough, and wishing a by-law to be passed by Council compelling owners of gorse hedges to keep the ditches free from cuttings of same, he stated that the contractor for supplying the shingle had not signed his tonder, whioh now became invalid. Bites to the amount of £25 had been received. The hawkers' and pedlars' license committee brought up their report. Or. Good proposed, Or. Burt seconded—" That the report as read be received and adopted, subject to the word "greengrocer" being added to the list of those who must take out a hawker's license." Carried. Or. Good proposed—- " That in the matter of letting the Council Chambers to the Bangiora Horticultural and Floral Society for holding its meetings in, this Council cannot see its way to allow that society or any similar one the use of the Council Chambers." Seconded by Or. Crothere. Or. Ivory proposed an amendment, seconded by Or. Stephens, whioh being put to the meeting, was negatived, and tne original motion was carried. The credit balanoe in Bank was stated to be £345 4s Id. Accounts amounting to £49 16s 6d were passed for payment. A tender was accepted for the concrete kerbiog at £2 5s per chain. After some further routine business, the Oouncil adjourned.
