CORN EXCHANGE.
The following ie the report for the week ending Friday, the 12th August, 1881: Business during the week has been exceedingly quiet. The state of the market is precisely on a par with the preceding weeks. Nothing has transpired during the week which calls for comment. The firm tone of the market is still maintained, holders appearing reluctant to co business at present quotations. Wheat.—Last week’s quotations are repeated, viz., good to prime milling, 3s 10s to 4a per bushel, delivered in Christchurch ; second-class samples, 3s 3d to 3s 9d ; chick wheat, 2s 6d to 3s per bushel, delivered in Christchurch. Oats.—Best milling quality is worth from 2s 3d to 2s 4d per bushel, delivered f.o.b. in Lyttelton ; feed, la lOd to 2s, delivered in Christchurch. Barley.—Very little business has been done in this ocreal during the past week. Potatoes. —The market appears to be in a completely dormant state. No fresh orders are coming forward. The only business which is being transacted is the execution of sales which took place in the earlier part of the season. Prices cannot be said to have in any way altered, and holders do not appear uneasy as to the ultimate value of the article. Grass seed. —The advent of spring is causing more inquiry. Really prime samples are worth from 5a fid to fia per bushel, and indifferently cleaned, according to sample. Cocksfoot. —3Jd to 3Jd per lb. Cheese and Batter. —The former is still dull of sale at from 3d to 3id ; for the latter there is absolutely no demand, prices, however, are unchanged at 7Jd to 8d per lb.
