The Harbormaster received a telegram yesterday at midday from the weather observer at Wellington, to the effect that a very hard S. W. gale would be due hero within a few hours. The glass fell to 28 90 yesterday afternoon. A feat of stevedore smartness in the handling of cargo was reported lately in a Melbourne exchange. A vessel named the Galley of Lome, from Hong Kong, having on board upwards of 1100 tons of tea and miscellaneous Chinese goods, was discharged at the Sandridge Railway Pier in one day. The latest news about the Livadia, the yacht designed by Admiral Fopoff for the late Czar, comes from St. Petersburg. The “ Novosti,” a newspaper published there, says that the vessel will, on its arrival at Sebastopol, if she survives the voyage, be broken up. The Russians have been unfortunate in their floating speculations, the Volunteer Fleet having also been discovered to be a mistake, the vessels being only of use for commercial purposes, for which they will be retained at the cost of a heavy annual subsidy.
