At a recent “ turning of tho first sod ” for a railway line—and when, besides the ordinary attendance of secular ministers, a minister of the Gospel was also present at the ceremony—a gigantic navvy, in a state of colonial beer, male use of some horrible oaths. Tho clergyman, thereupon, mildly called him to task j but tho other roughly responded, “No fear, Mister. I alius call a spado a spado.” “That I rather doubt,” quoth the parson, “ most probably you would term it ‘a sanguinary’ shovel.”
