[REUTER’S TELEGRAMS.] CAPETOWN, July 80. The Transvaal QuestionTelegrams from Pretoria announce that Mr Hudson, the Colonial Secretary in the Transvaal, has been appointed to the position of British Resident under the terms of the convention agreed to between the Royal Commission and the Boers. A Zulu ClaimantNews is to hand from Zululand that a claimant to the chieftainship, with 3000 partisans, is endeavoring to destroy the present arrangements for the government of that country. Mr John Dunn, the British resident, has communicated with the Imperial Government regarding the position of affairs, and only awaits permission to send a strong force to attack the insurgent chief and his followers. WASHINGTON, July 30. The President’s Health. President Garfield continues to progress satisfactorily. He is now able to take solid food, and his complete recovery is believed to be assured.
