Sir Theophilus Shepstone, who took a leading part in the annexation of the Transvaal, has written a letter deploring the recent action of the British Cabinet in connection with the Transvaal.
A shocking accident is reported to have occurred in a Catholic Ohuroh in Mexico on Sunday. While the congregation were assembled at divine service, the roof of the sacred edifice suddenly fell in, killing fifty people. A largo number are also seriously injured. There is a largo exodus of Jews from the Southern districts of Russia, in consequence of the hostile and threatening attitude of the Russian population. The destination of the outgoing families is America, An insurrection is reported at Mecca. An encounter took place between the Turkish soldiers and the insurgents, in which the latter were successful. The loss on the part of the Imperial troops was 250 killed.
