The Beer Duty. The Collector of Customs has laid informations against two firms of brewers for breaches of the Beer Duty Aot. It is said that the same stamps were used repeatedly. WELLINGTON, July 20. Maggie Patterson AshoreThe topsail schooner Maggie Patterson ran ashore at tho Heads, near the lighthouse, this morning. The pilot was unable to cross to to her, owing to the heavy sea running, but a signal has been hoisted from tho scene of the disaster that the crew are saved. She is 81 tons register, and is believed to be owned by Mr J. Anderson and two others, of Duaedin. It is not known from what point she comes, but it is thought from the South, with breadstuffs. She is insured in the National for £I2OO, of which £450 is reinsured in the New Zealand. A strong southerly gale is blowing. Later. The Maggie Patterson is here, from Greymouth to Dunedin, with coal, and is owned by Messrs Keith, Ramsay and 00., of Dunedin. Tho captain states that the vessel is not likely to be much damaged. The Wakatu Ashore. A telegram has been received that the Wakatu is ashore at Fatea. She is expected to be got off this evening. The PenguinThe Penguin, which arrived from Napier this morning after a thirty-nine hours’ passage, met with very severe weather. One of her boats was carried off the stocks and stove in, rendering it useless, and damage was done to the skylight. The Gale. The severity of the gals interferes with shipping business, and the departures of all small steamers is postponed. The MohakaThe Mohaka, which left Blenheim at mid' night on Monday, has not yet arrived. It is thought she has taken shelter at Port Underwood. DUNEDIN, July 20. FootballThe interprovincial football match is fixed for August 27th. [FBOM OUE OWN COHEE3PONDBNT.] ASHBURTON, July 30. The Hounds. Mr Archer, of Timaru, brought the hounds and horses to day to Ashburton, but tho hunt is postponed in consequence of the inclement weather.
