HOW THIEVES ARE MANUFACTURED.
To the Editor of the Globe. SIK, —I often see under the heading Police Court accounts of petty larcenies committed by little boys, and cannot help but think that a great deal of this is owing to the bad example often set by the parents themselves. I know a woman that used to send her boy out in the morning with a bag with instructions to gather wood—she did not care whore the boy got it from —and the boy used to prowl about and prig it whore he saw carpenters at work. This kind of thing was not required, for the boy’s father was always getting good wages. If he should happen to come home without any wood, he might look cut for a good licking, tor his mother is a very passionate, ignorant woman. I understand this same boy was hr ught up to Court a few months ago, charged with being an habitual thief. I t'oink if our Magistrates would strike at the cause, and punish the parents, it might have the effect of training up the child in the way it should go. Yours, &c. t OBSERVER.
