Hurst to be false and without the slightest foundation. Ho binds himself to pay £2O towards the prosecutor’s expenses, and regrets that he is not in a position to pay more. He alio undertakes to refrain from publishing criticisms on Hurst for tho future. The apology was accepted. The Judge, in passing sentence, told the defendant that had the c .se gone to the jury the consequences would have been serious for him, and his conduct in publishing libels on Hurst was utterly indefensible. Fined Is and costs impored. WANGANUI, July 14. Sporting. Tho Wanganui Spring Meeting is fixed for October 21st, and permanently on tho Friday before tho fourth Monday in October. The programme is the same as last year. Over £3300 has been spent in improvements during the last three years. The assets of the club show £2734 over tho liabilities. Thera was a largo attendance of members at the meeting.
