A Government “ Gazette” ie issued notifying that the Reform Bill is reserved for signification at Her Majesty’s pleasure, in accordance with the course of prooeduoe in altering the Constitution-Act. The Government had in consideration the appointment of Mr Hartly Williams as fifth Judge. Nothing is yet decided, A mass meeting of the National Reform League was held yesternight, condemning the action of Sir Bryan O’Loghlen in moving a vote of want of confidence. Messrs Berry, Vale, Clark, Smith, and others present spoke. Mr Smith favored a dissolution. He had no fear of the verdict if resolutions were passed expressing unabated confidence in Mr Berry. Several constitutional papers publish articles criticising the action of the Opposition in supporting the corner party, which they consider impolitic and is likely to have no good result. The Protos has nearly finished loading frozen meat. It is expected she will sail at the end of June, with 4000 sheep and 200 head of cattle. The steamer is chartered for one more journey from Melbourne to London. A portion of the ’present consignment was frozen by the Australian Ice Company, and the whole is of first-rate quality. Some game also will be sent Home per the Protos. The steamer Europa will bo the next employed in this traffic. The Cuzco, which arrives tomorrow, brings a large consignment of frozen fish, which will be submitted to public auction to-morrow. The rudder of the Bacchante unshipped on the 23rd when being taken up the river for examination and repairs. Mr Johnston, of the Tyne Foundry, contracted the repairs at a cost of £3OO. SYDNEY, June 29. The Queen of Nations has broken up and disappeared. Large quantities of wreckage have been cast ashore. The amount saved is comparatively small. There was much pilfering, despite the Government officers. From the quarantine station it is reported that a child, aged four, daughter of Mrs Rout, developed plain symptoms of smallpox. The mother has since shown signs of disease by inoculation. There are no fresh cases in Sydney.
ADELAIDE, Jane 29. The Adelaide Exhibition is progressing rapidly. Beckx, the Belgian Consul, announces that eighteen manfacturers will send samples to the Adelaide Exhibition, afterwards presenting them to the Chamber of Manufactures. The City of Melbourne, from Noumea, reports that the Aurora arrived from the Islands, bringing tidings of the massacre at Aoba. The May Queen ahchored there at the end of last month. The boats when on the beach were attacked, the natives killing one white and eight blacks. News has also been received of the murder of two whites named Brett and Eollett by the natives at New Britain. There is an increasing demand that energetic steps be taken to punish the South Sea murderers. ADELAIDE, June 29, Mr Bray, in the Legislative Assembly yesterday, made a statement regarding the policy of the Government. It proposes to increase the number of Councillors from eighteen to twenty-four, reducing the term of tenure of seats from twelve to nine years, one-third retiring every three years. Several of the measures are closely akin to those proposed by Mr Morgan’s late manifesto, except that they will abandon the proposed transcontinental railway by land grants, but favor the [extension of the present line section by section. An adjournment for a week was agreed to.
