The Ocean Banger, which left for Cape Town the other day, was within sight of the Heads yesterday morning, becalmed. As the wind freshened daring the day, she would have an opportunity of clearing the land. Messrs P, Cunningham and Co. advertised the s.s. Grafton to leave abont Monday next for Timara and Oamarn, and for the West Coast abont the 7th inst. The s.s. Hinemoa arrived yesterday at 6 a.m. from Wellington after a fifteen hoars’ rnn. Captain Fairchild reports seeing a barque deep laden outside, apparently bound to this port. The s.s. Akaroa is still cruising off the Peninsula, and on Thursday was at Akaroa. Captain McLean reported there that on Tuesday at noon the sea rose suddenly and inundated the roads nearest to the beach. The steamer was abont eight miles outside of Akaroa Heads when the reputed tidal wave rolled shorewarda, and as she steamed in between the Heads the sea was breaking there to snob an extent as would lead one to suppose the harbor had suddenly become bar bound. An unusually heavy sea, “ the heaviest ever known” there, as Captain McLean reports, continued to roll into Akaroa harbor up to Thursday last. PORT OF KAIAPOI. Cleared—July 1.
