TAURANGA, Jale 15. Found Drowned. The body of a man named W. H. Matheson was found drowned in the harbor to-day. He had been missing for some days. WELLINGTON, June 15. The Sunken Rock. A preliminary enquiry was held by the Collector of Customs this morning into the circumstances connected with the barque Arabella striking a rock off Fitzroy Bay, near the Heads, on the passage here from London. No fresh facts were elicited, except the pilot's statement that the captain, as a stranger, acting under instructions of the “New Zealand Pilot,” was justified in bringing up where he did, although he would not do so himself, as ho knew it to be a dangerous spot. DUNEDIN, June 15. On the Alert. The Licensed Victuallers Association are likely to send a delegate to Wellington to watch the progress of the Licensing Bill. Land Sale. The “ Times” correspondent at Gore says that the first sale of the cancelled deferred payment sections was held to-day. There was a very large attendance of settlers interested, and and all the sections but three were bought in by the original selectors. Very little opposition was offered by the outside public, those in possession retaining their farms. Mr Martin, the Government auctioneer, was cheered at the close of the sale. The Run Question.
An important letter was road at the Land Board to-day from the Government showing the course the Government proposed to taka with regard to cutting up the runs in Otago whoso leases shortly fall in, A large number of runs are to be laid off in areas under five thousand acres. FireMr Kitohing’s woolshed at Moa Flat, the largest structure of the kind in the colony, has been burnt.
