At a meeting of carpenters and joiners resolutions were passed fixing the rate of wages at 10s per day ; also in favor of the Saturday half-holiday. Blood Stock-
It is stated here that Dr. Weir (the gentleman who was chiefly instrumental in getting together a magnificent stud for Mr Seland Stanford, the Californian Bailway Sang) has engaged the whole of one Bide of the after deck of tie Zealandia on her next voyage from San Francisco, for the accommodation of his horses, As a first instalment, he brings three marcs, six stallions and one gelding, all of the purest blood. The first stallion is a magnificent blood by Young Vermont out of Old Vermont, 16 hands and half an inch high, 6 years old. His time for a mile is 2min 26secs. The second is the bay stallion Stride-away by Elmo. He is 16 hands, 4 years old, and trots a mile in 2min 40aecs. The third is a chesnut stallion, General Lee, 4 years old. His recort at three years old was 2min 15 J sees. The others are— Dapple, bay stallion, 5 years, 15 hands 3 inches ; mahogany chesnut stallion Primero by Elmo, 16 hands (when 2 years old the owner was offered 10,000 dollars for this horse by Mr Lsland Stanfrod); one bay stallion (twoyear colt); one ditto gelding (not for Bale) ; one chesnut filly, two years, Hattie Pear out of Elmo. She has the best two-mile record in the United States, and wae sold for £3OOO. Dr Weir takes his horses to Sydney and Melbourne, but it is possible that, endeavors will be made to have at least one stallion left in New Zealand. The Policeman Enquiry.

Interesting to Shippers
At the Resident Magistrates' Court to-day Mr Barstow gavo judgment in the case of Hoffman against the captain of the ship Peru for damage to a piano. Ho held that the defendant was only liable for tho csoe or packing, and not for its contents when the latter was signed for as unknown. The plaintiff must show that tho contents were in good order and not leave it to inference. He believed that in this inetuceo tho contents had been tampered with, and gavo judgment for the value of the case, 20*. DUNKDIN, Juno 12. Signs of Improvement
Property continues roadv of salo. The township of St. Clair, beyond Forbury Park, was sold on Saturday. Tho highest price of
a single section wan £1.70, and the total of the Bale amounted to £5374. Earthquake. A very heavy and distinct shack of earthquake, with a rumbling noise which continued about five or six seconds, was felt at Kuri Bush, Taiori district, on Thursday, at 9.40 p.m.
