CHRISTCHURCH. Thursday, June 9. [Before Messrs Ollivier, Westenra, and Parker, J.P'e.] Drunkenness, —For first offences, two men were discharged with a caution. Impudent Robbery peom a Tied.—Wm. Fowler was charged with this offence. On the afternoon of Wednesday, ho walked into a store kept by Mrs McNish, in Cashel street. Ho went behind the counter, opened the till and took some money out of it. Mrs McNish, who was sitting in the back room, saw the whole transaction. She ran out, and seizing him, took out of his hand 2s 6d. She knowing that there had been 18s fid in the till a few minutes before, and seeing that it was cleared, asked him to give up the rest of the money. Ho refused, and knocking her down ran out of the shop. She followed and told Mr Aldridge, a gentleman, of what had happened. He attempted to hold the prisoner who. however, struck him and got away, Mr Aldridge then sent a boy for the police, and kept prisoner from running away, until a constable was brought and arrested him. When searched at the lock-up prisoner had on him a two shilling piece, a rourpenny piece, and one penny. The above facts were proved by the parties named, the boy Arthur Clark, and Constable McOauslaud. Prisoner said he had been drinking, and knew nothing about the affair. He was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment with hard labor.
