[raoat the own cobbbspoitdbkt of the PBIBB.”] WELLINGTON, June 8. There is a total absence of any political rumors of consequence. Very few members have yet arrived, and not many are expected by the Northern steamer to-night. Some little surprise and anxiety have been created by the absence of any notification that the Speaker, Sir Maurice O'Rorke, had left with the other Auckland members for Wellington, and some curious speculations have arisen as t 3 what would be done if he did not arrive in time for the opening to-morrow, Mr Seymour, Chairman of Committee, will not be here before next week, and should Sir G. M. O’Eorle really not torn up the complication will be very peculiar, especially as it .is doubtful whether the Governor would consent to prorogue for a day or two. The Gavemor’s speech is still undergoing revision. A. proof has just been sent to Government House, and further slight alterations are anticipated. Nothing will be definitely settled regarding the movers and seconders of tie address in reply until mem-, hers are here to-morrow. 1 hear that the
speech will be unuiuafiy short, barely occupying two “ Gazette ” pages, and that it will be little more than a rechauffe of the programme put forth by Mr Hall at Leeston. The Opposition members are very jubilant nt Mr Biohmond’s defeat, and count positively on securing Mr Levestam’s vote, as also that of Mr Weston, who it is believed is certain to beat Mr Fitzgerald for Grey Valley. It is rumored that & the Opposition find they can safely count on these two votes they will unite on some more definite aggressive steps than are otherwise contemplated.
