LYTTELTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual meeting of this Council met on Monday night, when there were present the Mayor (in the chair), and Ors. Macpherson, Macdonald, Reed, Webb, Grubb, Weyburne, Smith. The receipts since the proceeding meeting were £204 4s 7d. A letter from the Under Secretary of Railways was read, assuring the Council that the restriction to terminate the proposed lease of the private siding in ten years, should the siding be put in by the Council, was hardly likely to be in this instance enforced. The letter advised that the Council accept the assurance, and proceed with putting in the siding at Officers’ point. The Council resolved to leave the letter in the hands of the Mayor to confer with the Ministers in Wellington. Mr J. Burnett, assistant engineer, wrote that the rails lent to the Council for some of its works would be taken back as requested. The clerk of Selwyn County Council advised the borough that certain dogs belonging to Selwyn had been registered in Lyttelton, and asked that the fees on such bo refunded to the County Council. Mr Isaac Robinson applied to lease 20ft. of borough land on the east side of Mr Queenees’ shop in Norwich Quay. The application, was granted at the upset price. With reference to the application of the Selwyn County Council for certain dog registration foes, it was referred back for particulars of the claim. The engineer at the pumping station reported everything ' working satisfactorily. Or. Maopherson brought to the notice of the Council the need of a proper fish stand, and hoped that as the fishing industry had received an impetus by the arrival of Mr Walsh’s boat, the Council would allow him facilities to display his fish for sale. The suggestion wos favorably received by the Council. A proposal of Cr. Webb’s to put up two lamps on the Little Brenohley road was left with the lighting committee, with power to act. Some desultory conversation took place upon the price of gas charged by the local Gas Company. The clerk was instructed to write to different municipalities, asking "the price paid by them for gas.
