NEW PLYMOUTH, May 30. The Rowena. An effort wag made last night to get off the Rowena, at Waitara, but she was found to be embedded firmly in the sand, and the attempt proved unsucoegsful. She is high out of the water, and, as she has settled down, will probably not be got off for some time. She ie not in a dangerous position.
ASHBURTON, May 30, Goldburg’s Case. The man Goldburg, after being dismissed on Saturday on a charge of swindling at the races, was arrested immediately after he left the Court on a charge of vagrancy, viz.— having no lawful visible means of eupport. He was brought before the E.M. and remanded till to-morrow, TIMARU, Mav 30. ForgeryAt the Magistrate's Court, this morning, John Quinn, a labouring man, who got three months’ imprisonment some time back for personating a detective, was charged with forging the name of O. N. Orbell, manager of the Levels Station, to a cheque for £44. Accused was committed for trial. DUNEDIN, May 30. The Late Railway Accident. The result of the enquiry into the accident near Anderson’s Bay road on Queen’s Birthday is that the pointsman has been dismissed. At the inquest on Bell a verdict of “ Accidentally killed,” with a rider urging the necessity for a city morgue, was returned.
