ENGLISH &_FOEEIGN. [eeutee’s TELEGRAMS.] LONDON, May 26. The Irish Land LeagueRecent news from Ireland states that a want of harmony is apparent in the working of the Land League. Discord has shown itself in open dissension between several of the leading members. Notwithstanding the arrests which have been made in Ireland under the Coercion Act, the power of the Land League continues to be felt throughout the country. Meetings under its auspices are still held in agitation of the land question, and it is rumored that the Government in consequence intends to instruct the Viceroy to prohibit all meetings of the Land League. The Wool SalesAt the wool sale to-day, 9700 bales wore offered, making a total of 133,900 catalogued since the opening. There was a good demand for the various lota offering. The total number of bales withdrawn from sale since the opening is now 7000.
The Frontier DifficultyThe Tnrco-Greek Convention, in its settlement of the frontier difficulty, having been concluded, the Right Hon. Gqschen, Ambassador Extraordinary to the Porto, is now returning to London. His successor, Earl Dufferin, will leave St. Petersburgh shortly for Constantinople. Money. Consols remain at 1023. Bank rate of discount remains unchanged at 2i per cent., and the market rate at IS, The total reserve in notes and bullion in the Bank of England is 15,400.000. The New Zealand Fonr-and-a-half per Cent. 18 1 9-1904 Loan is further advanced by , and is to-day quoted at 103. The Five per Gent. 10.40 Loan is unchanged at 105, and the Five per Cent. 1889 Loan at 104, ex dividend. The Markets. The markets for Australian and New Zealand breadstuffs and Australian tallow show no change iu prices. Selected transparent kauri gum is quoted at £lO 5s per cwt., being an advance of £l.
