(PEB PBK3B ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, May 24. Drowned Maoris. Two Maoris have been drowned in the Orua-Waharoa river, Port Albert. The bodies have been recovered. A Wrecker. At the Mongonui R.M. Court, Subrifzsky, of Awanui, was charged with having unlawfully in his possession goods and property belonging to the whaleship James, wrecked at Awanui Heads a short time ago, and fined £2O, costs £2, and £8 for goods deficient. The fine was paid. WELLINGTON, May 24. Dull Work. The day was fine, but bleak. There were no races or public amusements, but nearly everyone was out of town, and a general holiday was observed. The Governor’s levee was rather thinly attended, f Our Industries. Mr D. Atkinson’s specimens of Taranaki made Portland cement in various stages of manufacture and use, excite considerable interest in the Industrial Exhibition. Bide Association Belt. The Wellington Rifle Association Champion Belt was won by Lieut, Tait of the Engineers. HOKITIKA, May 24. Pure Jealousy. A crowded public meeting was held last evening in the Town Hall to protest against the action of the Central Board of Education in removing their offices to Greymouth, It was decided that the Mayor write to the chairman of the Education Board to convene a special meeting to receive a deputation next Saturday. Good News. Ealke and party, who have for some time been assisted by the Prospecting Association, announce the discovery of payable ground in Arahura district. They state that their tunnel is in 94 feet, and that they have payable sluicing ground for 70 feet, with a depth of wash dirt of 30 feet. They further state that they found good sluicing ground in many of the spurs and terraces in the district. Eight prospects have been taken from different parts of their tunnel with good results. The discovery is causing some excitement in the neighborhood. DUNEDIN, May 24. A Mistake Somewhere. A train containing forty passengers ran off the South line to-day at a crossing half a mile from the main station. Several passengers wore bruised a little, but otherwise no damage
