FOOTBALL.

There was a good muster of members on the Christchurch Football Ground on Saturday, to contest a match —Heavy (over XOst 101 b) v Light (under lOat 101 b) weight;-. In the first part of the game the heavy men had somewhat tho best of it, scoring two touch-downs, both of which were obtained by Dobson. The attempts, however, to convert tho tries into goals wero unsuccessful. In the latter part of tho game, the light weights were equal to the occasion, and managed to hold their own pretty successfully, keeping the ball well in their opponents’ quarters, and frequently carrying it dangerously near tho goal line. Beyond one or two force downs, however, no material advantage was gained, and a well-contested game finally ended in favor of the heavy men by two touch-downs to nil. During tho afternoon there was some good individual and all-round play shown on both sides, that of Farr, a quarlor-oaok, being specially noticeable. At present this player is only temporarily located in Christchurch, but, should he permanently settle here, he will be a great acquisition, and stand the club ia good need in their anticipated foreign matches this season.

The Pilgrims’ Club match on Saturday was a picked fifteen v. the rest of the club. The Fifteen, wearing gold and black, were captained by F. Fuller, and the Club, wearing blue and white, by C. F. Bowley. The former winning the toss, chose the southern goal, Bowley kicking the ball off for the blues. The first spell was very evenly contested, the forward play being very hard and fast, and some capital runs were made by the backs, especially the one by Fuller, in which ho secured a touchdown for his side. Kestnven also secured a touchdown for Bowley’s side, but the tries at goal were fruitless. The next two spells were again very equally contested, neither side gaining any advantage. In the final spell the golds, by some very hard forward play and very neat passing, managed to get the ball well into the blues twenty-five yards, when, after a succession of scrimmages, Muter, by a smart run, secured another touchdown for Fuller’s side, De Castro obtaining a goal from the try by a well judged kick, the game thus ending In a victory for the golds by one goal and a try to one try. For the blues Bowley, O. Woledge, Moule, and Parsons did good service forward, and J. Hills and Black back. For the golds Atack, J. Fuller, and Wright played very hard forward, while Hinge and F. Fuller were very good behind the scrimmages.
