RANGIORA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
An ordinary meeting of this Council was held on Friday, May 20th. Present—His Worship the Mayor, Ors Boyd, Good, Burt, Stephens, Ellis, Ivory, Orothers, White, and Gulliver. Correspondence was read and considered —From Mr Jas. Porter, offering to lease for five years the Borough reserve. The offer was not considered satisfactory. From Messrs Luxton Bros., for permission to erect a verandah. Granted, subject to deposit of plan with surveyor and his approval. From Mr O. A. Tyler, offering his services as borough ranger at the rate of Is per head on all cattle impounded. The offer was accepted. From the Charitable Aid Board, stating that Messrs Watts’ case was allowed, and that Lucy’s allowance was withdrawn. J. Mackay applied for employment. Loft in bands of surveyor. The drainage of the South town belt was considered. Or Good proposed “ That the drain be cleaned out by the Council, and that the owners of land on Avon street be requested to clean out the ditches adjoining their property.’’ Or Ellis moved, as an amendment, seconded by Or Burt, and carried, “That the surveyor’s report on this subject, as brought up at last meeting, be carried out.” Or Boyd, chairman of the hawkers and pedlars’ committee, brought in their report. Ultimately a new committee of five was appointed to make further report for the consideration of Council at the next monthly meeting. R. Vaughan's application for assistance on account of his own misfor-, tune and illness of bis wife was referred to
the committee fcr charitable aid. The purveyor reported that he had now five day men employed on the roads, &c.; that Mr Sharp, the contractor for asphalting pavement, was making good progress. Or White moved, and Or Ellis seconded, and it was carried —“ That extra day men employed be paid 5s net diem.” To this an exception was to be made in the case of Payne, who would be conoid erod a permanent man during Ogden's illness. T was resolved “ That the footpath of the East town belt be shingled, and that tenders be called for same.” The question of flood water from the Oxford railway and Good sTont was left in the hands of the works committee and surveyor. The credit balance at the Bank was reported to be £57 11s 4d. Accounts were passed for payment—£4s 6s 4i. Or Good proposed “ That the resolution, as previously passed, that a rate of Is in the £ ho levied, and be payable on Ist June, bo confirmed.” Carried. The “Standard” was appointed the official newspaper for the borough. Other business of a routine character was considered, and the meeting adjourned.
