CITY SCAVENGING CHARGES.
To the Julitor of the Globe.
J SlB, —Permit me, through _ tho medium of ■ your paper, to call the special attention of the poorer portion of the ratepayers of this ’ city to the petition now lying" at the City 1 Council’s offices, praying for an alteration in tho price and mode of collection of soaveng--1 ing charges. The purport of it is that, instead of having to pay 26s per annum as wo have to do at present for the performance of this ’ work, those living in tenements, say, at from 10s to 12s per week rental, will have to pay only about 4s yearly as scavenging rates. Smaller tenancies will, of course, be proportionately lower, while larger ones will be higher. It may, therefore, bo seen that it is interesting to all working men to sign this petition, and, as tho requisite number of signatures must bo obtained by Saturday next, it is necessary that advantage should be taken of the Town Clerk’s office being opened from 5 to 7 p.m. this and to-morrow evenings, for the purpose of securing the same. Yours, &0., J. P. OLIVER.
