Intelligence has just reached town of an attempt made on Tuesday evening to throw a ballast-engine off the line between Eltbam and Ngaire. A largo stone was put upon the line, and, before tie engine could be stopped, it had run against the obstruction with such force as to cause the iron-girders to bend almost double. No one was hurt. AUCKLAND, May 12, litigants’ GrievanceGreat inconvenience has been caused by Mr Barsto, the only R.M. here, going South to attend the Judicial Commission. The District Judge is also away. The medical evidence shows that several veins were severed by her wounds, but the knife fortunately missed the principal blood-vessels. It was almost a miracle that the wounds wore not fatal. The damage is trilling. Tararua Inquiry. At the Tararua inquiry to-day the evidence of tbs seamen was taken.
