INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the committee of tho Industrial Association took place last night, Mr Allan, President, in the chair. The Chairman gave information relative to the American process of drying fruits and vegetables, and laid on the table a pamphlet on tho subject. Tho opinion was expressed that, as the cost of tho necessary machinery was excessively moderate, this industry might well bo undertaken by many persons, and it was shown that in tho Liverpool market the air dried potataes bad commanded high rates. Mr J. P. Jamieson stated that the experiments in connection with the manufacture of cement had been commenced, (ho necessary facilities having been kindly afforded by tho Messrs Neighbors. He would be glad to receive communications from any persons owning deposits of chalk or cement, and ho was also prepared to receive further subscriptions in aid. It was further mentioned that two new industries had been commenced, and with highly satisfactory results. These were pulp for paper making and dextrine, or British gum, this last being a potatoe product. This was the only business.
