Taranaki agricultural statistics:—Number of holdings, 823 ; land broken up, 1841 acres —in wheut, 1036 aores j oats, 718; barley, 83 ; grass, 60,286; potatoes, 508 j maize,lll; turnips, 476 ; mangolds, 51; orchard, 850; other crops, 6 acres; total, 63,525 aorcs under crop. Plantation of forest trees, 143 acres. Litigation. The District Court is still sitting. In tho case of Middleton v the Bank of New Zealand, the jury returned a verdict that the sum of £4lB 13s 8d was not paid to the Bank o£ New Zealand on Mrs Middleton's behalf until the 2nd of June, 1880. Verdict for plaintiff for amount claimed, £29 10s. A. motion for a new trial was granted by the Judge. ParihakaEleven seotions in the Parihaka block have been disposed of for cash, and five or six on terms of deferred payment. INVEBCABGILL, April 23. loss by Fire. Anderson Brother's sawmill, near Invorcargill, was burned down last night. The working plant was all destroyed or made useless. The mill was insured for only a small amount in the National office. DUNEDIN, April 23. Benevolent Institute. Mr Simpson, 8.M., and Mr Maitland, have been invited to investigate the charges against tho management of the Benevolent Institute. Government declined to do so, as the institution is not a publio one. FireEarly on Thursday morning a six-roomed house in Green Island, belonging to Mr Geo. Wallace, was destroyed by fire. It waa insured in the Victoria effiee for £l6O. Mr Wallace estimates the value of the tenement at £l2O above that amount. As the place was unocoupied for six weeks, it is supposed the fire was the work of an incendiary.
