MR NOSWORTHY’S SALE.
Mr Nosworthy held his annual sale at Upper Biccarton yesterday. It was a glorious day, and though the attendance was only moderate there were o good few buyers there for the young stock. A very capital lunch was provided by Mr Morton, after doing full justicejto which, the visitors proceeded to have a look round the various lots. Mr J. T. Ford, who spoke with unusual eloquence and verve, took his stand in an improvised rostrum shortly after 12 o’clock, and quickly succeeded in getting through the yearling and two-year-olds ; Nonsense and Nonpareil going to the commissioner of a well-known vaoihg man, while Mischief fell to the nod of Percy Martin, who, it was presumed, was buying a stable companion for the speedy Mavis at Napier. Mignon was passed in for 500 sova., and then Mr Prince bought a bargain in a four-year-old daughter of No Name by Traitor for 30 guineas. Mr Wcstmacott got a great nibble in the imported Aurifera, which, in foal to Korari, he purchased for 40 guineas. Old Mermaid, in foal to the same horse, was passed in at 150 guineas, but her colt foal went to Mr Fallanco at 105 guineas. Waterwitoh was passed in, as well she might be, at 150 guineas, a most modest reserve to put on such a grand mare ; but Mr Westmacott bought her daughter reasonably enough for 55 guineas. Malice and her foal by Albany were passed at 500 and 100 guineas respectively. Indeed no purchasers were to the fore for any of the highly bred brood mares. No Name, Fallacy, Awatea, Tara, and their foils were passed in, except the filly out of Tora. Mr Westmacott showed his good judgment by giving 55 guineas for Tara’s filly foal by Albany. Toll Tale was passed in at 500 guineas, and no purchasers came to the front for either Traitor, Albany, and Korari, who were bought in respectively at 100, 535, and 800 guineas. The former to ship to the North Island would be a bargain. This brought Mr Nos worthy’s sale to a conclusion. Mr Ford, on behalf of Mr Wm. O. Webb, now offered a br f by Papapa, out of Middleton’s dam, Lady Florence, and a ch o by Leolinus out of the dam of Virginia Water —Wave. The former was purchased by Mr 8, Harris for 40 guineas, the Leolinus colt was passed in at 200 guineas. The various prices are appended : Gns. Br or blk f Aroma—Mr W.
