LandAt the Supreme Court Civil Sessions to-day Sir Michael Seymour, by his attorney, obtained a writ of ejectment against Mr Hutchinson, the occupier of land belonging to the Admiral in Victoria street. Sale of Bacehorses. Mr Buckland sold to-day the racehorse Rewanata for £95, Mr Gallager being the purchaser; Harkaway for £6O to Mr Holywood; Omega for £2B to Mr McGee. For Vortex the bidding reached £l9O, but the reserve was £250 ; for Miss Domett £6O was offered, but £2OO was required. BULLS, April 20. Fire. A serious fire occurred here this morning about 9 o’clock, resulting in the total destruction of a six-roomed cottage belonging to a man named Knight. The origin of the fire is unknown at present. The house was insured, though not to the full amount. InfanticideJoseph C. Hill and Christina Goodwin, charged with child murder, were committed for trial at the next sitting of the Supreme Court at Wanganui. BLENHEIM, April 20. The Maori AffrayThe adjourned enquiry re the Waihwai tragedy lasted all yesterday. The jury found “That deceased, Ropoama, met his death during a quarrel with Rawiri Kepa and Mary Ropoama ; that death was caused by injuries received during a souffle or fight on Saturday, 9th April, and recorded a verdict of manslaughter against Rawiri Kepa and Mary Ropoama.” WELLINGTON. April 20. Acknowledgment. At a meeting last night of the gentlemen interested in making a suitable acknowledgment to Mr J. H. Shaw and others, who contributed to the recent result of the Asylum enquiry, it was resolved that his Worship the Mayor bo requested to call a public meeting to consider the result of the inquiry. DUNEDIN. April 20. Trying to Gag the Press. At the commencement of Moritzson’s case Mr Smith, leading counsel for the prisoner, asked the Oonrt to request the Press not to publish the evidence until the completion of the case, as otherwise ordering witnesses out of Court would be unavailing, seeing that the case could not be completed to-day. The Judge decided that he had no power to grant the application. Martial. Dunedin has been chosen as the site of the next Volunteer Beview.
