Supreme CourtThere is only likely to be one civil case this session. BLENHEIM, April 12. Inquest. An Inquest on the body of Bopoma Perl Pcni was commenced at Picton yesterday, before Mr J. Allen, coroner. The principal evidence taken was that of Nbana Pakera, who deposed—“ I know deceased, and accused was at Bopoma’s house on Saturday night. Bawiri and Bopoma were having words. I don’t know what they were wrangling about. I saw Bawiri strike at Bopoma. They then fought, and I parled them. They had no weapon of any kind in their hands. I went home at ten o’clock. Did not see any more quarrelling that night. Bopoma was all right when I wont home. After I had been home some time I wont outside, and heard a noise. I walked down and saw Bopoma lying on his back. I picked him up in my arms. He was bleeding from his mouth. Ha did not take any notice of mo when I picked him up. His wife ran at me. She tried to strike her husband, but I pushed her away. Bawiri was close alongside. I took Bopoma to my bouse. He never spoke after. When wo found he was so bad the next day we washed him, and at two o’clock sent for the doctor. Mary Bopoma saw her husband after he was brought to my house. She dressed him.” John Beenan, a half-caste lad, deposed—“ I was at Eopoma’e house on Saturday night. Bawiri and Bopoma were fighting outside when I saw them. Bawiri struck Bopoma and knocked him down. He struck him again in bis side, when he was getting up, and when Bopoma was going to his house Bawiri hit him in the back, I could not see whether Bopoma was hurt. I went away for a few minutes, and came back, when I saw Bopoma coming up to bis wife. Bawiri got up and struck him. This was in the orchard. When Bawiri struck Bopoma, ho fell with his head against a stump. He did not get up again. I was close to them, Nhana came and lifted Bopoma’s head upon his lap. I did not see Eipoma attempt to strike a blow. Do not know the cause of the quarrel. On Saturday, the deceased and prisoner appeared on friendly terms, but they had been drinking. The inquest will bo resumed to-day. NEW PLYMOUTH, April 12. Railway Accident. Last evening the pessengor-train from Ngaro to New Plymouth had a narrow escape. On arriving near Inglewood, some firewood fell from a truck, and got amongst the wheels, throwing the other trucks oil the line, just as the train crossed the bridge known as the second Ngatara bridge, about a mile and a half from Inglewood. The sleepers of tho bridge were torn up. Part of the train wrs then disconnected, and came on into town without further obstacle except that of running over a fine bullock. Racing Nominations.
