ROAD BOARDS.
BPKEYDON. The Board met on Tuesday. Present— Messrs Henderson (chairman), Amyes, Ashworth, Eagleeome and Smith. Letters were received from Dr. Russell, re pollution Halswell River. Ordered to be attended to. lie undertaking the supervision of contracts, -fcc, in clearing drains and creeks in that portion of the district under the control of the Christchurch Drainage Board. The clerk was instructed to write that the Board has no objection to overlook the works in question for £2O a year. From Mr Burns, complaining of the water overflowing hie land joining the river Heathcote. Tho clerk to write to the occupiers of the mill on the subject. The clerk was instructed to confer with Mr Ashworth as to specification for keeping the Lincoln road in repair for twelve months; also, to request the railway authorities to remove obstructions on the public road at' Sockburn, and ask Meßtra Carter and Hancock to cut the gorse on the line of drains previous to being cleaned by the Board. Mr Amyes offered to lease reserves Nos. 333 and 334 if the Baard would ereot gates. Messrs Eagleeome and Smith were appointed to inspect and report next meeting. The foreman's report was read. It was decided to advertise for tenders for various works. Tenders were opened, and one accepted in each case. Accounts amounting to £lO3 7s Id were passed for payment, and the Beard adjourned. LITTLE RIVER, The usual monthly meeting of this Board was held on Monday. Present Messrs) Forbes (chairman), Parkinson, Wilson and Judge. The surveyor's report was considered, after which the following correspondence was received :—Telegram from the Oolonial Secretary, wishing to be informed if there were any pounds in this district, besides the one which had been the subject of recent correspondence with that office. Answer : none. From the trustees of Mr H. Buchanan, granting permission to the Board to have the road from Barry's Saddle to Okute Valley surveyed through Section 2802, subjectto the following conditions : —lst, that old road marked impracticable be conveyed to said trustees, and that the road where it passes through section 2802 be fenced on both sides. Resolved, that tho above conditions be accepted, road to be fenced when it shall be wanted, and that a copy of the letter referred to be forwarded to tbe chief surveyor, together with a copy of tbe resolution of the Board, and to solicit that he would be pleased to continue survey through section 2802, as per his letter to tho Board. A circular was received from the Manawatu Oounty Council re allotment of land fund, &o. It was received that said ciroular be acknowledged, and that this Board sympathise with the movement in question, and will give it future consideration. Resolved, that the few repairs which tend to make the track along Mount Bossuet ridge dangerous be attended to. Also, some slight repairs on culverts and bridges in the Little River district, the olerk being requested to see them put to rights. With regard to clearing the river bed of large boulders by the new bridges in Western Valley road, it was resolved to postpone the work to a future day as well as the continuation of No. 2 section of Port Levy spur contract. It was resolved that the culverts on Gebbie's Valley road be lengthened to the width which the chairman and clerk may deem fit. Also, that the undermining of the bridge in McQueen's Valley be attended to by clerk ae well as the repairs necessary to the bridge over main drain by Gerkia's. There were six tenders for the erection of a bridge over the river Halswell at G-reenpark, and that of G-eorge Ware to build according to plan and specification was accepted. There were fourteen tenders to cart metal on main road at Tai Tapu, that of Oarsons was accepted. For clearing main drain at Tai Tapu there were six tenders, T. Davies' tender being accepted. An application from Mr Reynolds to have twenty-five ohains of road formed in Okute Valley was considered, and it was resolved that as Reynolds is , willing to pay half the expense, the clerk be " requested to visit the locality and report on its utility, &c. Mr Wilson was authorised to communicate with Captain Aschman with : regard to road through bis section in Western Val ey. It was resolved that contractor cart metal on about twelve chains extra of Gobbio's Valley road, starting from where the old metal terminated. After paying some bills, the Board rose. WAIPARA. The monthly meeting of the Waipara Road Board took place at the office, Waikari, on Monday, April 4th. Present—Mr J. D. Lance (chairman), Messrs T. Sanderson and W. B. Pyne. The surveyor's report was then read. The chairman stated that he had seen the chief surveyor, who had informed him that there was not any surveyed road across Mr Edwards' block of land (sec. 7539). The clerk was instructed to write to the Chairman of the Kowai Board and state that enquiries had been made, but when the Board was more fully informed they would let them know, and also state that the road mentioned by the Kowai Board was the road joining the road running to the south branch of the Waipara, out of section 28,961. Messrs Scrimgeourand Roeoe came in to see the Board, requesting that they might have £4OO laid out on the road to their land, stating that in the winter it was in a very bad state. The Board gave instructions to their surveyor not to exceed £2OO ; the Board previously having passed several resolutions that it was not to enter into contracts at the present time for that class of work on account of tho damage to roads now formed, but they would do it as soon as the weather was suitable. The following correspondence was then read : From Mr D. O. Crowley, with regard to a dray road from the south branch of the Hurunui. The minute book was referred to, and the Board considered that that matter had already bees disposed of in June last year. From Mr G. D. Greenwood, saying that his road had not been attended to, but the Board said it should be done as soon as possible. From Manawatu County Council, which was read. From Mr Hardy Johnston, C.E., Christchurch, stating that if the Board required any more professional advice, he should be glad to solicit their patronage. From H. IngTis, surveyor, Amberley. Mr J. Glendinning came to the Board saying that he had met with an accident whilst driving through a gate belonging to Mr James Little on a publio road, damaging his cart, which had cost him £6 14s to repair. The Board told him they considered Mr Little liable for the damage ; they would write to him requesting him to pay it. Messrs Glendinning and Johnston came requesting them to widen the culverts and part of tbe Waikari Valley road. They were told that the surveyor should report on the matter. Mr Pyne mentioned that there was apiece cE road to be attended to leading to Waitohi Gorge. As it was a small matter the surveyor was instructed to get it done, and not have it tendered for. Mr Sanderson said that the surveyed road to the Hurunui opening up a large blook of land, required to have some small outtings made. Surveyor instructed to go and look at it. Acoounts amounting to £737 5s 9d were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
