AUCKLAND. April 8. Fire. Ireland Bros.* P&nmnre Tannery, the largest and most extensive In New Zealand, was totally destroyed by fire this morning-. When diecoTered, the

flames had a firm bold on the building. Nothing could be done to savo them, or th<> goods stored in them. Nothing is known regarding the origin of the fire. The total loss is estimated at £20,000. The insurances so far are unknown. Amongst the property destroyed were GCOO sides of leather, 18 bales of basil, 600 calfskins, 3GOO hides, SOO tons oE hark, 3GOO gallons of cod oil. Tho tannery, which did a large bnsiness, gavo employment to eighty men. _ , loiter. Tho insurances on Messrs Ireland's tannery are very heavy, chiefly in the New Zealand office, but the amount is not yet exactly ascertained. The Union has a re-insurance policy of £7OO, and the North British one of £IOOO. Scratched Eternally. The Auckland Jockey Club hold a meeting re tho /' stiffening" of Golden Crown in the Panmure Handicap. The Club, after hearing evidence, decided to disqualify the horse, its owner. The Southland men attending tho Oamaru Review are as follows :—Artillery, 60 ; rifles, 30 ; hussars, 50. This contingent will be joined bysixty from the Lakes district. They leave here ou Thursday night, and arrive at Oamaru on Friday morning.
