SELWYN COUNTY COUNCIL.

Tho following business was transacted by the Council after we went to press yesterday On resuming, a report of the standing committee on reads diversion was read. The pro--1 posal to stop and do away with a road by the n von Road Board was also read. The latter 1 recommended that tho action of the meeting of Avon ratepayers on the subject be confirmed, and that the .£l5O received from the sale of the road he devoted towards tho erection of tho Styx bridge. It was agreed, on the motion of Mr J. I/. Wilson, seconded by Mr H. W. Peryman “ That tho Council do hereby confirm the decision of the meeting of ratepayers of tho Avon district held on the 10th day of March, 1831, approving the proposal to stop the road commencing at tho north-west corner of B.S. 183, and thence following Dudley’s Creek to the south-eastern boundary of the said section, a distance nf about sixty chains.” Some difficulty having arisen owing to tho R M. Courts refusing to pay informers a fourth of the fine received from offenders against the Dog Tax Ordinance, it was resolved, on tho motion of Mr J. Mathias, seconded by Mr J. L. Wilson—“ That this Council be authorised to pay ono fonrth of the fine inflicted in each case of conviction for non-registration of dogs under tho Dog Registration Act, 1880.” It was resolved, on the motion of Mr McMillan, seconded by Mr H. W. Peryman "That the chairman of this Council and Dr. Turnbull be authorised to sign cheques.” The report of the inspector of slaughterhouses was read and approved. Two applications for renewal, and two applications f r fresh licenses were granted, the latter on condition of premises being erected to the satisfaction of the inspe- tor, and the necessary rule as to advertising be observed. Accounts amounting to -£950 were passed for payment. On tho motion of Mr Peryman, seconded by Mr J. L. Wil-on, it was resolved —“That the petition to tho General Assembly re landed endowments of County Councils, emanating from the Wairoa County Council, be adopted by the Selwyn County Council, and passed under its On tho motion of Mr J. L. Wilson, seconded by Mr U. W. Peryman, it was resolved—“ That the sum of £SOO, with tho .£l5O coming from the sale of the Dudley’s Creek road, be voted towards the construction of a bridge over the Styx river, in a line with the canal reserve, on the condition that the plans and specifications be submitted to and approved by this Counci'.”
