RANGIORA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual monthly meeting was held on Friday evening, the 25th of March. P csont—Hia Worahip the Mayor, O u 0 Hors Boyd, Burt, Good, I'Ory, Ellis, Stephens, White, and Gulliver. A circular was read from the Manawatu County Council . enclosing a copy of reaolutiona pasted by that Council ro Government subsidy, and waa ordered to be acknowledged. Correspondence waa also received from the Charitable Aid Board as to Vaughan’s case, also forwarding a cheque for allowances to 25th February. The surveyor’s report was read and considered. Tbs bridge over the creek near Manning’s Brewery was ordered to be removed, and a new one erected as suggested, the Mandoville and Rangiora Board, and Messrs Manning and Cone bearing their share of the expense, the total cost to the Council not to exceed £5. The repairs to the bridge on Boys’ road were reported to have been completed. The house to house visitation of the borough ranger had resulted in raising the number of dog registrations to 153. Ah the By-law respecting hawkers' and pedlars’ licenses did not appear sufficiently explicit, on the motion of Councillor Bart it was decided to ask the Christchurch City Council for information in connection with the Bylaw in force in that city. At the suggestion of the Mayor, it was decided that the charitable aid committee investigate the case of the man Lucy. The credit balance at the bank was stated to be £165 3s 2d. Accounts were passed amounting to £45 11s, The tender for asphalting from Mr W. Smart was accepted, at 3s per yard for footpaths, and 5s 6d for cart crossings. Permission was accorded to Mr Roberts, of the Junction Hotel, to erect a water-trough ; also to owners generally to erect tethering posts, subject to the usual conditions. Councillor Burt’s motion to erect lamps in various parts of the town was brought forward and fully discussed, but owing to want of funds it was decided that the Council was not warranted in going to such an expense at the present time. The meeting then adjourned.
