CANTERBURY RAM AND EWE FAIR.

The ram portion of this annual event was concluded yesterday. At the beginning of the sale the attendance was limited, and the bidding languid, but as the day wore on an improvement in both respects was noticeable, seme very good prices being obtained for several lots of fine pedigree sheep. The following is a list of sales effected by tho various auctioneers : Sold by Miihsrs Eobt. Wilkih amd Co.

Thirty-five of Mr John Grigg’s Shropshire Down rams were let tor the season at prices ranging from ff to 1$ guineas, to Messrs Clozer, H. Chamberlain, W. M, Watson, and W. Hill. Messrs 11. Matson and Co. disposed of all their entries with the exception of one lot, which was withdrawn. At coon to-day the ewe fair was started by Messrs H. Matson and Co. offering 20 Southdown ewes on account of Mr Masiiray, in 4 lots of 5 each, the first of which was bought by Mi E. Garland at 1 j guineas each, the remaining 3 lots being secured by Mr C. Lewis at 1J guineas each ewe. Messrs Matson submitted another line of 100 Sonthdowns on account of Mr John Deans, which were sold to Mr S. Garforth at 11s fid each. Mr J. T. Ford followed, by offering to competition 14 magnificent l.idcnln ewes belonging to Mr E. Monlove. The first pen of 4 was bought by Mr J. Moßeth, of Messrs Henderson and Mcßetb, at 8 guineas each. The same gentleman also purchased the second lot of 4 at 5 guineas each. The remainder were passed in The next lot comprised 20 Lincoln ewes, on account of Mr J. B. Beid, which failed to elicit a bid. A line of 20 Romney Marsh ewes, also from Mr Reid’s flocks, were passed in at 35s each. The sale was concluded by 5 Leicester ewes being offered, on account of Mr VV. >.! Webb, of Riccarton, which lot fell to tho nod of Mr I>. Thomas, at 17s fid per head.
