MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Monday, March 14. fßefore A. Lean and G. L. Lee, Esqs., J.P.’s.] Drunkenness. —Annie Wharton was fined 10s. Geo. Forester, who was arrested on Saturday night for fighting near the Palace Hotel, and who stripped to the skin to fight tho arresting constable, was fined 20s. Alfred Newman, for being drunk and disorderly on Saturday night in Armagh street, near the Golden Fleece Hotel, and for assaulting Sergeant Hughes, who arrested him, was fined 20s and 5a expenses of one witness. Archibald Moorhead was fined 10s. John Beatty, who by accident failed to appear on a former occasion, was now brought up, and, admitting his having been drunk on February 25th, was dismi-sed with a caution. Miscellaneous.— Goo. Richardson, H. Mole, Thos. O’Keefe and Wm. Cope, for allowing horses to wander, wore fined each 5s and costs 2s. W. J. Reece and Thos. Green were fined 10s and 2s costs for tethering horses on a road way, Wm. Duke, for fighting on Oxford terrace on March 3rd, was fined 10s. Joseph Yeitoh, for using obscene language in a public thoroughfare at Papanui, was fined 20s and costs 2s. A case against J. Dermott, a cabman, for neglecting to keep an appointment with a customer, was withdrawn. A ease against Thomas Bates, for allowing smoke to issue in such quantities from a chimney as to bo a nuisance to his neighbors, was adjourned for one week. The adjourned case against A. Elliot, for plying for hire as a carrier without a license, was further adjourned till March 16ih. Charles Hunter, another carrier, who was charged with plying for hire on a place not a licensed stand, and with using abusive language to Inspector Beck, was fined 10s, and 7s coats. Oases against Mary and John Halloran, for using abusive language and assaulting D. Heggarty, wore struck out with the consent of prosecutor, A case against. E, Rickerby, tor rescuing a cow driven by J. A. Williams on the way to the pound at Halswell, was dismissed. William Young was charged with using abusive language to J. P. Olliver and P. Hill. Mr Loughrey appeared for defendant. The Bench told the parties, who are occupants of stalls in Victoria Market, that the cases were of a trumpery character, and dismissed the informations.
