COMMERCIAL.
The Customs duties collected at Christchurch on Wednesday, March 9th, were as follows: Spirits, £250 15s 2d; tobacco, £37 12s 6d ; wine, j 863 5s ; sugar, £24 lls 7d ; tea, -062 7s ; goods by weight, JS26I Cs lid; ad valorem, .£2611 10a ; other duties, £lOl 9s 7d. Total, .£Bll7 17s 9d. GEAIN AND PEODUOE. The scarcity of shipping is beginning to be severely felt in Lyttelton, and both merchants, agents, and the railway are having their storage taxed to the utmost. Business in the wheat market has been marked with some amount of indifference on the part of buyers, no doubt owing to the charges they must incur through want of immediate shipping. Good sound wheat is saleable at 3s Gd f.0.b.; and Tuscan nt up to Ss 9d, also f.o.b. ; seconds, for feeding purposes. are offering at Is 9d to 2s 3d, Flonr is in fair demand at .£lO, and some mills are said to have difficulty in keeping pace with orders. Oats have been on offer more freely daring the week, and sales are reported at Is 5d to Is 7d, according to quality. Barley is exceedingly difficult to place, and values have farther receded, good samples being only worth 3s, and medium to fair 2s to 2s 81. Grass seed is in excellent demand at 3s Gd, and cocksfoot slow of sale at 2Jd. Dairy produce has been in limited enquiry, at 6d to 7d for butter, and 3Jd for oheese.
