The weather to-day was very fine, but for a portion of tho afternoon a changeable and baffling wind interfered with the shooting of some of the squads. The shooting in the Wellington Citizens’ Match was generally splendid, the winner making 77 ont of a possible 84, and the fifteen prize takers beiug all 73 or upwards. Match No. B—Anyß—Any member, 300, 400, and 500 yards, seven shots at each range ; prizes, £9, £B, £6, £5, £3, eight of £2, thirteen of £l.
Tho following are the prizetakers in order Paynter (Nehon), Weir (Thames), each £75 ; Hutchison (Otago), Hoshin (Tnraoaki), Lieut. Ballinger (Wellington), Rowlings (Nelson), each 73 ; A. Dixon (Wellington), 72; Cooper (Auckland), C'ossman (Nelson), Somerville (Wan ganni), Stitt (Wanganui), each 71 ; Burr (Wellington), Hunter (Woimea;, F. France (Wellington), Ricketts (Waimea). Downie (Thames), Armstrong (I hames), Fowler (Waimea), Harding (Oamaru), Anderson (Clntha), each 70; Turner (Blenheim), Brooks (Dunedin), Johnson (Dunedin), Ellis (Nelson), Hazlett (Auckland), Woolley (Thames), each 60. Paynter also takes Hodson’s Cup for tho highest aggregate in matches 1 and 8, and also holds the Marlborough Cup for this year as winner of No. 8 match. Shaw, Howell, and Grey each made 69 without taking prizes, and Armstrong, Ross, E. Thurston, D. Ballinger, A. Nntsford, Oakoy, B. Doidgo (privates) made each 68.
Nelson Citizens’ and Brewers’ Prizes Match, 200, 400, SCO yards. Seven shots at each distance, All members.
First prize, Citizens’ Cup and £2O, A. Ballinger, Wellington 77; second, brewers’ tea and coffee service and £ls, Waddell (Nelson), 76 ; third, umbrella stand, presented by Messrs Montray and Crosbie, and £lO, Rogers (Blenheim), 76; fourth, cup, presented by Mr Muncuster, and £7, Weir (Thames), 75. fifth, 2cwt. flour, presented by Mr Rutherford, and £5, Downie (Thames) 75 ; sixth, £2, Maddock, E. (Blenheim), 75, Tho remaining nine prizes of £1 each were taken by Thomas (Thames), Edes (Nelson). A. Dixon (Wellington), each 75; Urch (Waimea), Hutchinson (Otago), each 74; Haslott and Sutton (Marlborough), Ross, E. (Westland), Cooper (Auckland), each 73. The following made 70 and upwards, bat cid not get prizes : —Sharland, Hoskin, Remington, Purcell, Paynter, Harding, C. Franco, Howell, Turner, Shaw, Coleman, Smith (Greymouth) ; Gill and P. Okey, each 72 ; Griffiths, Webster, King, Barnett. H. Sutton, Hall. D. Thurston, Skilt, Dixon, H. Armstrong (Wellington), each 71 ; Linstrom, W. Ross, Parslow, Bradley, Bennington, Brooks, McLean, Kowler, Haalett, Taylor, Weymes, Watt, Clanaton, each 70. There were 138 entries, and the chief prizes were the most valuable of any match of the meeting. To-morrow the two Championship matches will be finished by abont four o’clock. RIFLE CAMP, March 5.
The weather continues beautiful. A dead calm prevails to-day snd the weather is very hot. The ninth and tenth matches, which decide the respective championships, are proceeding slowly, the men being squadded so that those with highest aggregates will not fire final stages until late in the afternoon, when a large attendance of visitors from town is expected to witness the conclusion. The squads in which Paynter and Hoskins fire do not commence shooting until 4.15.
