OTAGO T. CANTJsRBUBT.
The following is the continuation of the game after the adjournment:—On resuming after Innch the play was very steady, and the scoring slow. Parker played on after making 7, and H. B. Morrison made his appearanoe. If he did not show snch good form as his companions he had bettor lack. Three lucfey .snicks jnet out of long stop's reach secured him 10 rnns, and some minor contributions made his total 17, when he fell a victim to W. Frith, tiix for 51, not a very cheerful prospect; but worse soon followed. After the addition of 4 to the total, Spring, who had played in fino stylo, was clean bowled by Fuller, and Millinsrton fell before W. Frith in the next over. Eight wickets were now down for 55. Leith made only one hit, for which he was credited with 3. Nine for 61. Hnme, the last man, stayed long enongh to allow W. Morrison to hit up 15 before he went ont to a half volley, and was bowled. The total was found to be 77, and of cour.o necessitated a follow on. During this innings W. Frith bowled remarkably well, securing no less than eight wicketß for 18 runs. Ashby's only over was not a great success. It will be seen upon reference to the score that all the Otago batsmen were bowled.
After a long interval Otago commenced their second innings, to the bowling of C. Frith (north end) and W. Frith (contra). Hume and Crawshaw were deputed to wipe off the runs, but the former misplaced his confidence when be hit a ball from C. Frith bird to Hartland'a left hand, a brilliant catch, enabling Haskell to join his comrade. Unfortunately it was not of long duration, as Crawshaw followed Hume's example, w.th a like result. Paramor put a little life into the game by some fine drives off W. Frith to the boundary for 4 each. Baskell, however, put a ball up in the slips and retired in favor of Spring. Faramor now hit with great freedom, getting 18 runs off W. Frith's next two overs, bringing on Ashby at the southern end, but after two more overs had been bowled time was called, the score, standing at 46 for three wickets. Spring gave what appeared to be a chance to Fowke at the wickets, which was taken, but the umpire was disinclined to a separation. As will be seen, E. Fowler resigned his place at the wickets in favor of Fowke, who performed very creditably for a younsr player. The fielding was good, but not altogether free from mistakes. miED DAY, Again a fine day set in, the weatber being somewhat similar to that of the two previous days. At 12.25 Canterbury again took the field, Paramor and Spring, the not outs of vesterday, coming in to the wickets to do honors for Otago in their up-hill task. Fuller led off with the bowling to Paramor, and the batsman got his third ball away to square leg for a brace. C. Frith took up the bowling from the north end, and Spring drove his third ball to the off for 3, which brought up 50. A maiden was the result of Fuller's next over. Paramor drove the first ball of Frith's next over to the off, and a single was obtained through a bit of bad fielding. The batsmen scored a single eaoh off Fuller's next over. Spring cut C. Frith to oover for 3, and snicked the last b&H of Fuller's over to leg for 2. 0. Frith's next over was a maiden, thanks to Hartland's fielding at mid-on, where Paramor sent him down a couple of warm drives. The last ball of Fuller's next over found its way into Spring's timbers—s9—4—ls. The captain, Collinson, then joined Faramor, and a single by the last-named brought 50 up, Fuller sending him down a maiden in the next over. Collinson broke the ice by cutting Frith for 3, Paramor following it up with a single ; and he again lifted Fuller's first ball to the on clear of the field for 3. Paramor's race was now run, as he drove a ball hard back to C. Frith, which was accepted—67—s—37. Parker was the next man, and C. Frith clean bowled him in his next over, without altering the score. H. B. Morrison was the next man to. face his captain. D. Ashby now made the catch of the game. Collinson drove a ball hard to the on, apparently clear of the field, off Fuller, when Ashby came out from the deep field like a shot, and, springing out to it, made a splendid catch with lis right hand, amidst applause. Millington was the next man, and made a single off the first ball of Frith's next over, but the next ball found its way into Morrison's wicket. W. Morrison then took his brother's place, but he drove the first ball back to the bowler, which was accepted. J. Leith was the last man. He commenced operations by driving Frith to the on for a single, and then sending Fuller away to square leg for another single; but he saw his partner's timbers going in the same over, the total at the fall of the last wioket standing at 72, Canterbury thus winning the match in one innings and 232 runs.
