AMALGAMATED SOCIETY OF ENGINEERS.
This society held their seventh anniversary dinner at the Prince of Wales Hotel, Colombo street south, last evening. The table was provided in first-class style by the landlord of the hotel. The chair having been taken by one of the original members, tho business of the evening commenced. Part of the business was to present Bro. MoFarlane with £IOO on account of the accident benefit fund, and also of the sum of £SO contributed by his fellow-workmen and friends. The presentation was made by Bro. the vice-president in his best style, and in a very appropriate speech. The president, at the same time, took occasion to present the secretary of the society, in the name of the Christchurch branch, with a very handsome gold locket in recognition of the many services he had rendered to that branch of the society. After the returning thanks and the usual loyal toasts, the meeting was adjourned, tho members having spent a very enjoyable evening.
