PAPANUI COURSING CLUB.
About twenty gentlemen attended a meeting at Wild's Hotel on Tuesday, February Bth, to consider the advisability of forming a District Coursing Club. Mr D. Thomas was voted to the chair. Upon the motion of Mr Calvert, seconded by Mr Burns, it was resolved—" That a club should be formed, to be called the Papanui Coursing Club." It was decided that members should be admitted to the club on or before March Ist, upon payment of a guinea, and after that date the entrance fee would be one guinea, with half a guinea as yearly subscription. The following officers were elected :—President, Mr Thomas; vice-presidents, Messrs J. Wild and J. T. Mataon ; hon. sec, Mr O. A. Calvert; hon. treasurer, Mr J. W. Ellen. Mr Ellen proposed, Mr Derritt seconded, and it was carried—" That the committee be composed of nine members, to be elected at a general meeting on March let." A provisional committee, consisting of Messrs W. Smith, McFadden, Bell, N. Smith, and Ferguson, was formed for the purpose of preparing rules, &c.,' in conjunction with the officers of the club. After arranging a few details, the meeting adjourned.
