The Customs duties collected at Christchurch »n Friday, February 4th, were as follows: Spirits, £267 la 3d; tobacco, .£65 16s ; wino, .£29 6s 6d; beer, .£9 7s 6d ; sugar, £7 4p ; too, £BO 9s 4d ; goods by weight, £72 5* lOd ; ad valorem, £126 16s; other duties, £ls 13s 6d. Total, £674 19a lid. LAND SALE. On Saturday last Messrs. H. Matson and Go. hold a sale of property at their land and estate saleroom?, Cashel street. Tho room was crowded, the great interest of the day being in tho sale of the Highfield township, on the banks of the River Heathcoto at South Gpawa. The first lot?,_ fronting on tho river, caused much spirited bidding. The following is the results of the auction Section No. 1, containing 1r 4p, £72; No. 2, containing 39 porches, £7O; No. 3, containing Ir, £65; No. 4, containing Ir 3p, £63; No. 5, containing 37p, £6llos : No. 41, containing 32p, £59 10s ; No. 17 and 18, containing 3lp, respectively £66each; No. 6, containing Ir 6p, £55 ; No. 39, containing 34p, £ 17; No. 38, containing 31p, £46; No. 37, containing 34p, £ll 10s; No 40, containing 31p, £55; If J. 29. containing 32p, £47 ; No. 28, containing 32p, £l6: No. 30, containing 34p, £45. The analysis of the sale was, viz., 3a 2r 17p sold, averaging £57 per section, or £252 15s per acre. Several of tho unsold sections are now open for private sale. After the above one and a-half sores land and six-roomed house at Hackett’s an Bligh’s road, Fapnnni, was sold for £385. ticveral other properties not realising the reserve prices were withdrawn.
