FEMALE REFUGE.

The annunl meeting of subscribers to the Canterbury Female Refuge and Reformatory was held in the City Council Chambers yesterday at 4 p.m. Present—His Lordship the Primate (in the clitiir), Rev. J. Aldrod, secretary ; Mr J. R Jameson, treasurer; the Very Rev. the Deun, Messrs H. W. Packer and G. Booth. The Chairman called on the secretary to read the annual report. The report stated, that in reference to class A., the results were of a very cheering and encouraging character, and in no previous year had the refuge been more successful than in the past year. In the reformatory (class B.) there bad not been the success expected. The reformatory had only been open about six months of the year, and tho efforts of the committee had been little more than of an experimental character. It was hoped that with the present accommodation and a modification of some of tho rules now in force mto favorable results would be reported at the end of the year. The report concluded by expressing the thanks of the committee to those who had contributed fcojjfcho support of the institutions, with speoial reference to Mr Hopper, of Addington, through whoso personal liberality and his influence with other bakers the refuge had been supplied with bread during ten months of the year free of charge. The treasurer submitted the balance-sheet for 1880, by which it appeared the receipts were £llß9 8s sd, inclusive of a balance of £69 9s lid from 1879. Expenditure—£lo99 3s Bd, leaving a credit balanoe of £9O 4s 9d en the 31st December last. On the motion of the Dean of Ohristchurch, seconded by Mr H. W. Paoker, the report and balance-sheet as read were received and adopted, and ordered to be printed.
