THE BUNDOORA PARK SALE.
[From “ The Leader,”]
The annual sale of Mr S. Gardiner’s yearlings took place on December 31st, on the estate where Mr Gardner has now fixed his residence and transferred his breeding establishment. As the day was beautifully , fine, it was anticipated that there would bo a very large attendance, which expectation was not fulfilled, there being not more than 150 persona present when the auctioneer mounted the box. Mr Gardiner had prepared _ a very neat standing lunch, which was laid out under the verandah, and after the visitors had refreshed themselves, the sale proceeded, under the direction of Mr W. O. Yuille, Mr Campbell ecting as auctioneer. From the first the bids seemed languid and forced, and those who thought they would improve as the sale went on were disappointed. The halfbrother of Lone Hand brought 100 guineas, having been started at 20 guineas, Mr E. N. Bell being the purchaser. A wellgrown colt from Psyche was purchased by Mr Baldock for the Indian market for 125 guineas. The Ace of Hearts colt was passed in at 50 guineas, the Topaz colt at 30 guineas, and the Coquette colt (a half brother to Progress) was passed in at 330 guineas. There was no bid for the Boyal Heart colt, neither was there for the Nevada colt, or that from Sea Shell. The Pride colt realised 70 guineas, and the Kestrel colt 90 guineas, Mr Baldock again being the buyer. Two others did not meet with buyers ; after which the Lurliue colt came forth, bnt after 300 guineas had been bid he was withdrawn, —The trotters 'were then submitted, the three best colts realising the prices given below. The sale, as far as Mr Gardiner was ooncerned, was most unsatisfactory, and it was said that several of the youngsters, which did not find purchasers here, will find their way to New Zealand, some good offers having been made for several of those which were withdrawn.
