HEATHCOTE ROAD BOARD.
A meeting of the Heathcote bridges committee and the members of the Bead Board was held on Thursday last, January the 27th, at 10 a.m,, in the Board room, Ferry road. Present—Messrs P. Jones (chairman), W. Attwood, J. O’Neill, G. Dryden, J. H. Hopkins, J. W. Davis, E. J. T. Ford, E. Garland, L. Wilson, T. York, and F. Pavitt. The report of Messrs Martindale and Davis was read, recommending the acceptance of the design marked “ Iron ” if certain alterations were made. Mr Davis stated that none of the designs would do without certain alterations. On the motion of Mr J. H. Hopkins, seconded by Mr T. York, the premium was awarded to the design marked “ Iron,” as modified according to the suggestions of Messrs Martindale and Davis. It was resolved that the other designs be returned to their authors with the thanks of the committee. Re site at Christchurch Quay it was resolved to defer this matter till the 3rd February, to see if the necessary amount to purchase a piece of land from Mr Bennie could be obtained by subscription, if not the bridge to be put over at the original site. Re Cemetery road site ; this was deferred to enable the bridges committee to get an agreement signed by those interested to give ground to widen the road. On the motion of Mr Davis, seconded by Mr Yorke, it was decided to recommend the Heathcote Boad Board to accept the tender of Messrs J. and A. Anderson for the erection of either one or two bridges, one at £7OO, or £1350 for the two, on certain conditions.
