KAIAPOI ISLAND SOUTH.

The distribution of prizes and annual trout, at this school was hold on the loot day of the old year. Prises and toys purchased by Messrs Qillmcn and Humphreys, to the value of £l2, were distributed by Bev. D. O. Hampton, who had kindly acted as examiner. The school was profusely decorated, and there was a large attendance. The prize list was as follows : Standard V.—James Merrin, dux ; William King, 2nd. Standard lll.—Alice Humphreys and Walter Merrin, two first prizes, those two having scored a Ue ; Jane King, 2nd; Jane Lorimer, 3rd. Standard 11. Bella Sooti, Ist j Alfred Merrin, 2nd ; Olara Humphreys, 3rd. Standard I.—Mary Stevenson, Ist; Ellon Merrin, 2nd ; Alice Belcher, 3rd. Sewing prizes t Standard 111. Jane King, Ist; Jane Lorimer, 2nd; Alice Humphreys, 3rd. Standard ll.—Bella Scott, let; Ann Larimer, 2nd ; Clnra Humphreys, 3rd. Standard I.—Ellen Merrin, Ist; Ann Scott, 2nd; Alice Belcher, 3rd. A presentation of a handsome silver cruet stand was afterwards made to Mrs Gillman by the members of the sohool committee, in appreciation of her services. After a few words fcom Mr D. O'Collaghan, chairman of tho committee, and the teacher, Mr Gillman, games were held in a paddock lent by Mr H. Vale, the same being conducted by Messrs Merrin, F. Walls, J. Wright, and Gillman. She children were regaled with tea, and the adults kept up a dance till a late hour. The prizes for sewing at this sohool have subsequently been decided by Mesdames J. Matthews and J. Lowthian Wilson.
