Rata York Whalebone Lady Grey Warrigal Colonel Talent Jtimers Morpheus Elfin King Hero Lancaster Libeller Native Satellite GOLDFIELDS HANDICAP. Whalebone York , Warrigal Lady Grey Talent Colonel Morphena Janiers Hero Elfin King Libeller Lancaster Satellite Native CHATHAM ISLAND RACES. A correspondent, writing from Wo-itangi on January Bth, sends ns the following results of the Chatham Island Jockey Club’s Annual Meeting:;— Judge, Mr J. Aukland ; starter. Mr A. Cluff; clerk of the oiurae, Mr B. Coffey; clerk of the scales, Mr P. T. Elliott; stewards, Messrs T. R ; tchie, J. Briscoe, A. P. Brown, and P. T. Elliot; secretary and treasurer, Mr F. T. Moore.

The programme commenced with the Champion Hurdle Rack— Distance, one and a half miles, over seven flights of hurdles ; top weight, list 71b. Mr T. Ritchie’s Cleopatra, aged, Hat 71b (Gray) 1 Mr Metai's Africa, aped, list 71b (Symonr) 2 Mr D. Meikle’s Betrayer, Mr Wi Totahuhn’s Sea Devil, Mr M. Dix’s Pound of Tobacco, Mr W. Nairn’s Rainbow, and Mr E. Coffey’s Temuti also ran. There was a good start. After getting over the first hurdle Betrayer took the lead to the third hurdle, where he baulked. Then Sea Devil took the lead close by, followed by Cleopatra and Pound of Tobacco to the fifth hurdle, where Pound of Tobacco fell. At this place Betrayer came to the front again, running neck and neck with Sea Devil to the sixth hurdle. Here both baulked, leaving the race to Cleopatra, closely followed by Africa, Rainbow, and Pound of Tobacco. Tima—--4 mins.

Maiden Hurdle Race— Distance, one mile, over five jam pa ; weight, lint 71b. Mr T. Ritchie’s Hammahama, aged, list 71b (Eanmoa) 1 Mr A. P. Brown’s Prince, aged, list 71b (Roland) 2

Mr H. Martin’s Jack, aged, list 71b (Symonr) 0 The race was slow until the second round, when Hammahama put on a spurt, and came in first, closely followed by the other two. The jumping was good. Time—3min. 30aec. Maiden Flat Race —Distance, one mile. Mr H. Rayner’s Don Pedro, lOst 41b (Jsymour) 1 Mr A. Shand’s Hotspur, lOst 41b (Owner) 2 Mr T. Ritchie’s bampson, Mr Teware’s Pipi and Mr T. Ritchie’s Hornby also started. They all got off well together, and kept close till near the finish, when Don Pedro shot ahead and came in by two lengths. Time —2miu. 15seo. Chatham Island Cup—Distance, two miles ; weitcr weights; to bo won three years in succession. Mr Wi Tatahnhn’s Sea Devil, aged, 12st 71b (Piripi) 1 Mr T. Ritchie’s Island Rose, 2yrs, fist 101 b (Willie) 2 Six started for this race, which was one of the most interesting of the day. Sea Devil has won it now two years in succession and has another year to fight for it Sea Devil and Betrayer made the running. Island Rose delayed too long in coming to the front. She came up and collared Sea Devil, but the latter won by half a length. Tima—3 min.

Emma took the lead from the first, and kept it all round, coming in three lengths ahead. Ladies’ Purse —Distance, one mile ; beats. M. H. This race caused a great deal of intere t in consequence of Mr Ritchie's Island Hose (one of his Middle Park purchases) running. They all got away well. Island Rose excepted. Sae delayed at the post, but when started she soon passed them all, and came in first by a length, making a splendid finish. Time, 55sec.

(Grangi) 1 On the whole onr day’s sport was very good. The races were well contested, the day was particularly fine, and there were no accidents. The Grand Stand was crowded.
