[EEUTEE’d TELEQEA.MS.] LONDON, Janaary 14. Wheat Afloat. The total quantity of wheat afloat for Great Britain is 2,190,000 quarters. Parnell’s DefeatIn the House of Commons to-day, Mr Parnell’s amendment on the Address in Reply to the Queen’s Speech was put to a division, and was rejected by a largo majority. The debate on the Address was resumed, but now stands further adjourned. Fenian NewsFarther rumors of intended Fenian raids are gaining currency. It is now alleged that an attempt has been made to destroy the armoury at Salford, in Lancashire, by the use of dynamite, but that the plot was discovered in time to prevent its success. January 15. Miners’ Strike. The strike of coal miners in Lancashire is of a very serious character. Riots have occurred between the strikers and police in different places. The MarketsConsols, 981; market rate of discount has been raised to 3J per cent., equal with the Bank rate; New Zealand securities are unchanged; Australian tallow has advanced, best beef being quoted at 345, and best mutton at 36s 6d. The Fenian Scare. Information has been received which seems to prove that the attempt to destroy the armoury at Salford, as reported this morning, was actually made. It is now definitely known that an explosion took place, but the cause of the same is a complete mystery. The Greek QuestionTelegrams are to hand from Athens reporting that the Greek Government has decided that an attack shall be made at the end of the month to obtain the required territory in Epirus and Thoesaly from Turkey, unless the cession bo previously made. In consequence of this information the Powers are making renewed efforts to prevent an outbreak of hostilities between Turkey and Greece, and to bring about the settlement of the frontier difficulty. CAPETOWN, January 14. The War. News received to-day from the seat of hostilities in Basuto Land shows that notwithstanding recent heavy losses the enemy continue to act on the offensive. The rebels recently made a strong attack on the position of the colonial troops at Masera and Leribe, but were repulsed with further loss.
