rBBTTTEK'S THIB&BAM.] MELBOURNE, January 1. The attendance on the Flemington course to-day was the largest of any champion meeting. The weather was splendid. His Excellency the Governor was present. The following are the results of the chief events : Noemakbt Stakes ; 5 furlongs. Liberator •«• ••• •* Monmouth 2 Welcome Jack ... ... ••• 3 Won by a bare half head. Time, Imin. <tjsecs. CHAMriOK Stakes ; 3 miles. Grand Flaneur J Progress ... ... ... ■•• 2 Sweetmeat ... ... ■■■ 3 Wellington and Trevellyn also started. The race resolved itself into a match between Grand Flaneur and Progress, who were together all the distance, but the former finally won by two lengths. Time, Smin. 40.10C5.
