CRICKET.

OARISBROOK CLUB v WANDERERS. The above match was commenced Dec. 29th at Hagley Park. The weather was rather cloudy, but otherwise good for cricket. The Wanderers won the toss and went in, Messrs Oorfo and Ollivier facing the bowling of Cooke from the northern wicket and Hume contra. Tho Oarisbrook team differed somewhat from that which played against Ashley County, Messrs I. D. Walker and Spring taking the places of W. Fitzgerald and Austin. Tho Wanderers did not make a good beginning, as, Ollivier hit all round at a straight ball from Cooke. One for 12. Hurt land filled the vacancy, and played in better form than usual. The score increased although a chance at tho wickets and a hard drive back to the bowler by Oorfe should have terminated his innings. At _57 Hartland obscured the umpire’s vision of the wicket, and tho ball hitting his leg he had to retire for a neatly, made 17. Ashby gave a chanoe to coverpoint directly he went in, but the ball reached the ground safely. Oorfo, however, was soon afterwards caught at the wicket, having mado--35 by two 4’s, two 3’s, six 2’s, &o. A fine catch by I. D. Walker at short-leg dismissed Ashby. Four for 67. Another single and B. J. Ootterill was bowled off his pads, Messrs. Beeves and Wilding, however, made a stand, causing the century to appear. It now came on to rain, and an adjournment was made to lunoh. The rain stopped the play for a short time. Upon resuming, Wilding increased his score to 31, when he was well caught by Collinson at point, but the same fieldsman had shortly before missed him at short-leg. His score was well made; his chief bits were two 4’s and two 3’s. Six for 117. E. O. J. Stevens followed, but only put on 3 before a ball from Fitzgerald went in off his pads. Ho gave an easy chance to long-leg off tho previous ball. Seven for 132. Beeves in tho meantime having put on most of the runs. A. T. Bodmayne filled the vacancy, but rain again put a stop to play. From the first ball upon resuming Beeves gave a chance to the bowler, but it was not accepted. This was his third escape ; the two previous chances, however, were not easy. The score increased steadily, several good drives by both batsmen causing 160 to appear on the telegraph. Boon afterwards Reeves gave another chanoe to shortleg, which was held ; the total being 163 for eight wickets. He played a good, although a lucky innings. A. O. Wilson followed, and made two hits for 2 each and a single, but was then bowled by Oooke. Nine for 175. H. J. Beswiok joined Bedmayne, and a fine stand was now made. 200 appeared on the board. The bowling was changed repeatedly, but without effect. At 221, however, Redmayne tried a short run, and paid the penalty. Ho played a fine innings, free from chances. Beswiok played well for his 19. The bowling of Messrs Oooke and Hume was very steady, but the former had bad luok. The fielding on the whole was not good, a number of catches being missed. The Oarisbrook commenced with Messrs I. D. Walker and L. Harris, but at 22 the former failed to play a good ball from Ashby, which broke back. H. Bose only secured a single, when he was bowled by Beeves, and Vernon and Harris continued until half-past fire, when rain stopped further play. The following is the score : WINDEBEBS. First Innings.
